The Building Societies Association completed a survey at the end of 2011 investigating the number of people in the country that wish to build their own home.   As many as 53% of the UK would like to build their own home and 12% intend to build in the next 12 months.

The new Planning Policy Framework released in March 2012 is encouraging people to do just that!  The UK Government have decided to release land reserves for the public to create their own unique homes.
